It’s hard to believe that it’s 2012 already. Last year flew by so fast and created some incredible memories… went “live” with my blog back in May, a fantastic family trip to the beach, an incredible 30th birthday party, redecorated my daughter’s bedroom (plus many other DIY projects), got a new puppy… and of course one of my favorite highlights, the St. Louis Cardinals won the World Series!
So while looking back at this fantastic year, I was trying to think of what lies ahead. I have so many hopes and aspirations personally and professionally for 2012. Thought I would jot down a couple of ideas so I can look back and feel a sense of accomplishment when I cross them off my list. Here we go…
I don’t want to just create something to have a new post for my blog. I want to create something meaningful, useful and noteworthy. I want to thrift and transform trash into treasures. I want to have more time to paint, draw, cook and sew (we’ll get to that one in a minute). I’d like to do less crafting, more building. Really get out my power tools and get dirty! Back in college I used to build furniture but now it’s hard to find the time and energy. Well, here’s to hoping that’s gonna change in 2012!
I would like to focus a litte more on my social media this year. Grow my Facebook fans, Twitter followers, Pinterest pinners…and learn more about new outlets like StumbleUpon and Google +. As I’ve said on many occasions, I don’t care about making money on this blog, I just want to be part of a creative community and “make stuff”.
I’m so excited to attend my first ever DIY blogger conference in June of this year! The Haven Conference will be held in Atlanta, Georgia and features some of the greatest DIY bloggers, including Centsational Girl, Miss Mustard Seed, Southern Hospitality, Just a Girl, Home Stories A to Z, Thrifty Decor Chick, Beneath My Heart and more! Yeah, amazing line up! I’m so excited to get some inside tips for painting, thrifting and social media outlets.
It’s sad to say that my grandmother was an AMAZING seamstress and I didn’t learn how to even spool a sewing machine from her. I was extremely stupid and naive to never take one lesson. I deeply regret this, so it’s one of my top New Year’s Resolutions for 2012. My aunt gave me an old sewing desk this past Fall and I plan to restore it and have my dear friend give me some lessons. Wish me luck!
- Paint. Change to a neutral color in my great room, dining room, hallway and kitchen.
- Punch of Color. Add peacock blue to my great room & dining room with great accent pillows, rugs, drapes and decor.
- Go Bold. Paint my piano (eek!) and showcase my unique & eclectic style throughout the home.
- Outdoor Living. Spruce up the backyard with new landscaping & a patio makeover.
- Storage. Find an armoire to transform for my home office. Organize throughout, too!
- Updates. Paint my kitchen island. Change out boring chandelier in dining room.
- oh, and so much more!
On a final note, there is a 5 part blogger series called Growing Your Blog from some of the best DIYers out there (some that I mentioned from the Haven Conference!). If you’re into blogging or looking to start a blog, I would highly suggest listening to some advice from these very talented girls! It all starts TODAY at Nesting Place.
