I needed some new crafty projects to fill the empty spaces from where I had my Halloween décor, but I really didn’t want to spend too much money since Christmas will be here before ya know it. So the Dollar Tree was calling my name…
- (1) large glass vase
- (1) narrow glass cylinder vase
- (1) large candle
- (1) bag of moss
- (1) garland of spray
To start I placed the narrow vase inside of the larger vase. You can buy these types of glass vases at Michael’s and other stores, but they can be quite expensive. Might as well make my own for $2.
Next I filled in between the two vases with some of the moss. I only used about 1/4 of the bag which filled the vase about one-third of the way up. After that I placed the fall colored spray on top of the moss layer.
Place the candle inside the inner narrow vase and the project is complete! Only about 5 minutes to assemble, and less than $5 to make!
Not too shabby for some supplies from the Dollar Tree, right?
And I can replace the Fall spray with Christmas colors for the holiday season!

Thanks Tracie!
Very clever and super cute! I’ll be heading out to the Dollar Tree today!
Thanks so much. Good luck with yours!
Well, you can’t tell that it is “on the cheap.” Perfect for the season!
Thanks Shari! Have a great weekend ;)
Oh I love this, super cute! :) I really love the dollar store, that looks like fun, I wonder if I could come up with something just as creative .
Of course you can! Think of all the options with the Christmas decorations!
I love this! I haven’t always been a big fan of hurricanes, but this is making me do a 180! I love the colors and the moss at the bottom gives it that perfect “living” touch. Very lovely, and I love that its so inexpensive. I cringe to think what it would cost to buy this pre made in a department store. And it probably wouldn’t look half as lovely! I just love looking at the colors in that spray!!!

Hi Erin,
This is really beautiful. Thanks for sharing it with us. I too am from the St. Louis area. I actually lived in Hillsboro,Desoto area about 50 miles south of St. Louis. I now live in Jefferson City. Keep the low cost decorating ideas coming. My husband and I are currently remodeling and old farmhouse and I welcome all the ideas. I want to decorate on the cheap. Love your blog :)
Awesome Melissa! I’m actually in Lake St Louis so just a short drive to Jefferson City. And your old farmhouse rehab sounds amazing (that would be a dream for me!). Would love to see some pics someday ;)
