My little ladybug starts Kindergarten next Wednesday. Can you believe it? Feels like summer just started! Well I guess it’s time to get organized for the school year. First up? A place to showcase her schoolwork!
I started with some simple supplies:
- Carved wood board from Michael’s
- Black chalkboard paint and brush
- Apple decals
- Binder clips
- Hot glue gun
- White painters marker
- Chalk
First thing you want to do is cover the wood board in two coats of chalk paint. Let it cure for 24 hours before the next step.
Next I used the white painter’s marker to add some lettering to the sign “This Week In School”. Hint: you can always use a pencil first to lighting sketch out the lettering if you’re prone to mistakes!
Once the letting is dry, add the binder clips and apple decals.
Now why did I use chalk board paint if I used a paint marker for the lettering? Well I knew I still would have space in between the binder clips to write the school weeks.
My idea behind this is to hang her artwork, write in the dates, and take a photo. Yep, I won’t have to save every single piece of artwork, just the best ones from the year. BUT I’ll still have an archive of everything she did with dates & photos.
Pretty clever, huh?
Yeah, let’s just see if I actually stick to this plan…

I know, I’m so sad! No longer a baby 🙁

This is great. It is so important for the littles to see their artwork proudly displayed. And really, I don’t think that ever changes (as I look around the house at my “DIY artwork” 🙂

Haha, so true Sue! Hopefully she’ll try a little harder at school if she knows I’m going to hang her papers. I bet she wouldn’t like to see F’s on display 😉
