How to Add Legs to Furniture

So a couple weeks ago I showed you guys some painted nightstands for my brother’s guest bedroom. While I completely LOVED how they turned out with the Belle Craie paint and a dark glaze, I really wished they were a big more feminine. So to take the nightstands to new heights, I decided to add some legs on them (ha, see what I did there?).

And here’s what the before & after looks like…

before and after add legs to furnitureSUPPLIES:

  • 4 furniture legs (per piece) with pre-installed screws
  • Drill & bits
  • Tee nuts from Ace Hardware (about 87¢ each)
  • Hammer
  • Paint or stain

INSTRUCTIONS:
To get started, make sure you have your furniture legs first. The size of the pre-installed screws in the table legs will then determine your drill bit and your Tee nut size. Suggestion: take the legs with you to the hardware store to test out the Tee nuts!

4-in Mixed Maple Classic Bun Feet Wood Table LegOnce you have everything sized you’re ready to start assembly. Mark where you want your furniture legs and pre-drill holes. If you don’t have enough work space for the legs, you’ll need to add a small piece of wood to the underside before attaching the legs.

Next hammer in your Tee nuts into your pre-drilled holes.

And yes, it really is that simple.
And I really think it makes a HUGE difference!

how to add legs to a nightstandJust make sure you set the legs back far enough so they are sticking out in front. Remember it’s ok not to set the legs flush to the front of the piece. Even setting them back 1/2 inch is better safe than sorry.

add legs to nightstandThe legs cost me about $24 per nightstand (for a set of 4).
At least I purchased the nightstands for only $20 each.
Still a bargain in my book and now love them more than ever!

Great before & after right?

Striped Rocking Chair

I wanted to make a cute & cozy little reading corner for Ellie at my brother’s house in her new bedroom since the kid is obsessed with books right now. So a couple weeks ago I sent Ben out on a search to find me the perfect chair to makeover and he found me this…

rocking chair before paintI was surprised; it was actually in really good shape and only $10! It was almost a shame to paint it, but it really didn’t go with the room. So I took out my Zinsser primer and some Plutonium spray paint in Polar white.

plutonium white spray paintI’ve told you before, this Plutonium paint dries super fast… like in under 5 minutes fast. I actually wish I would have skipped the primer and only used the Plutonium since I had to sand after the primer (I hate that bumpy, gritty feeling primer can leave behind).

DIY painted rocking chairOnce the paint dried I grabbed some acrylic paints from Michaels. Light blue, dark blue, and coral colors, plus some white just in case I made any mistakes (cause we all know that happens).

DIY painted rocking chairI started with the dark blue and painted the little knobs on the spindles, every third one. Nothing too neat. Just a quick swipe of the paint brush.

And then the coral and light blue to follow…

And in no time it looked like this!

$20 from Target.
The chair was only $10, and the paints were less than $3 for all 4 colors.
