Striped Rocking Chair

I wanted to make a cute & cozy little reading corner for Ellie at my brother’s house in her new bedroom since the kid is obsessed with books right now. So a couple weeks ago I sent Ben out on a search to find me the perfect chair to makeover and he found me this…

rocking chair before paintI was surprised; it was actually in really good shape and only $10! It was almost a shame to paint it, but it really didn’t go with the room. So I took out my Zinsser primer and some Plutonium spray paint in Polar white.

plutonium white spray paintI’ve told you before, this Plutonium paint dries super fast… like in under 5 minutes fast. I actually wish I would have skipped the primer and only used the Plutonium since I had to sand after the primer (I hate that bumpy, gritty feeling primer can leave behind).

And then the coral and light blue to follow…

And in no time it looked like this!

$20 from Target.
The chair was only $10, and the paints were less than $3 for all 4 colors.

Now Ellie has a fun little place to sit with her books at night.

IKEA Rast Dresser Hack

This is a sponsored post written by me on behalf of Hickory Hardware and Pittsburgh Paints and Stains. I was provided with an IKEA Rast Chest, furniture pulls from Hickory Hardware and a gift card for supplies. All opinions are 100% mine.

My brother gave me the green light to makeover his guest bedrooms while we’re staying at his house during these next 3 months. Since I don’t want to spend a huge amount on décor and furnishings, I’ve been bargain hunting like crazy to design these rooms on an itty bitty budget.

You guys saw my newly painted nightstands for our bedroom last week, well now it was time to give Ellie a nightstand/dresser to hold her summer clothes.

So what did I find? A $35 Rast dresser from IKEA.
But you wouldn’t be able to notice it now!

IKEA RAST HACK

It’s hard to believe that just a week ago we were putting this puppy together in Ellie’s bedroom. And surprisingly enough, it took less than an hour to put together. Not too shabby for our very first IKEA assembly project.

I still want to paint in here and have some other decorating projects (lamp makeover, wall art, toy organizer), but this room is definitely taking shape!

And it’s nice to know that the IKEA in St. Louis opens this Fall. I see a bunch more of these hacks in my near future!
