Laundry Room Organization + GIVEAWAY

I think I might have a small obsession with laundry room makeovers. This is like the 4th one on this blog in the past 4 years: our first home, second home, my neighbor’s, and now this one…my brother’s house.

His family just moved into a brand new home and they wanted to get a couple rooms organized, especially the laundry room. With two young kids, they use this room more often than they’d like. This little niche seemed like the perfect place to add some organizational storage.

Hubba hubba, right?

closetmaid laundry roomI actually decided to use a ClosetMaid SuiteSymphony™ 25 inch Starter Kit organizer for this space, something that would normally be used in a reach-in closet. I popped on their website and actually got to design the layout once I input the measurements of my space in their ClosetMaid® Easy-to-Use on-line Design Tool.

closetmaid was very helpful in showing several finishes and configurations, plus it created my SuiteSymphony™ shopping list right there!

The entire system took about 3 hours to install, including all 4 drawers. Much faster than I anticipated! And now they have so much additional storage in their laundry room! Loving those adjustable shelves behind the cabinet doors.laundry room organizationI opted for 2 large drawers and 2 smaller drawers towards the bottom. Great place to store clean towels and blankets.

And there’s still a whole other side of the laundry room you guys need to see! We’re building a hamper storage unit with countertop so stay tuned for that tutorial!

But can you believe this ClosetMaid before & after?
Doesn’t even feel like the same space!

Laundry Room Makeover

I have to admit that the photos for this laundry room aren’t the best. They were taken with my iPhone since my camera is packed away for the big move. Luckily I snapped a couple quick pics before we starting tearing everything off the walls and throwing it into boxes!

A couple weeks ago I showed you guys the color selection: Luxury Beige, a sweet and understated purple tone from the Clark+Kensington line at Ace Hardware. So here’s is the before with just the paint…

laundry room makeoverThis really was an inexpensive makeover that I threw together over a weekend. The biggest addition to the space was the cabinets & countertop. They are just white stock cabinets and a stock countertop that we cut down ourselves to fit the space.

laundry room makeover ideasMy absolute favorite part of the room is the vintage-style prints I found on Amazon. Only $7.50 for ALL 4 prints! I just found some cheap white frames from Michael’s. Seriously LOVE these.

71NpMPyV1bL._SL1000_At first I was thinking about wall cabinets above the washer & dryer, but I was trying to stick to a budget. So instead I just hung a long wire shelf and reused the baskets from our old laundry room.  You might recognize that old sign too! Yep, I reused a lot of ideas & supplies from our old space. Just gave it new life!

laundry room shelves and signThe ironing board and iron hang on the back of the laundry room door. Everything else is stored in the baskets or the cabinets. Love having the countertop as a space to fold clothes fresh out of the dryer.

laundry room ideasOpposite of the washer & dryer I made a hook wall like our old laundry room. This really got a lot of use so I knew I wanted to implement the idea again.

laundry room mud room makeoverI used a white brick wallpaper from Amazon. I do NOT recommend the product. It was flimsy and tore easily. Yeah, it looks 100% completely fine in the end, but it was a pain to work with.

After the wallpaper was hung, I added a large piece of trim as a chair rail and screwed some hooks (check for studs first so the hooks are secure with long screws and can hold heavy things like bookbags and winter coats!).

As I said, super simple design but I love it.

Functional. Affordable. Fun.
