My daughter started Preschool this past week. Yep, one more year until Kindergarten. Man, I can’t believe how fast time flies!
In trying to prepare her for grade school next year, I’ve come up with a Library Card system for our books at home that will track my little reader’s progress. Wanna see?
Here’s how it works….
Click and print out the free library card printables on cardstock.
Trim each one out and set aside.

Now it’s time to print out the library card envelopes that will stick in the back of each book.

Here’s the instructions for how to fold and construct the envelopes. Just a trim with your scissors, fold along the dotted lines, and a little glue.

After you’ve read a story you can write down what sight words they knew, which words they sounded out, and when they could read the entire book on their own.
Yep, you can easily keep track of your child’s reading progress, plus it will be a fun project for them to look back on when they’re older!
Another bonus of this system is that you won’t get stuck reading the same old books every night, right? And this will encourage them to read. What’s better than that!

aww.. this takes me back. I loved when these used to be in the books at the library. When we were little we used to stamp with our hello kitty stamps in back of our books to pretend. My daughters will be like ” what are these for , mommy?” And what about the card catalogs? I know we’d all like to have one of those now, just for DIY purposes 🙂

HA! I know, my kid had no clue what this was!! I can just remember the smell of old books from the library and seeing how long ago someone took out a certain book by the stats on the library card. Ah, that makes me feel so old!

What a great idea! Thank you for the printable. I am going to have to do this. My 2 year old LOVES books, and I have a 6-month old that I’m hoping to instill the same love in as well. Cheers!

Love this idea!! I am going to do this for my 7 yr old…. Is there any way to make these removable for when she gets rid of her old books? Thanks.

Oh, unfortunately I don’t really have a solution for that problem. Sorry!
