This is a sponsored post written by me on behalf of Hickory Hardware and Pittsburgh Paints and Stains. I was provided with an IKEA Rast Chest, furniture pulls from Hickory Hardware and a gift card for supplies. All opinions are 100% mine.

My brother gave me the green light to makeover his guest bedrooms while we’re staying at his house during these next 3 months. Since I don’t want to spend a huge amount on décor and furnishings, I’ve been bargain hunting like crazy to design these rooms on an itty bitty budget.

You guys saw my newly painted nightstands for our bedroom last week, well now it was time to give Ellie a nightstand/dresser to hold her summer clothes.

So what did I find? A $35 Rast dresser from IKEA.
But you wouldn’t be able to notice it now!

IKEA RAST HACK

It’s hard to believe that just a week ago we were putting this puppy together in Ellie’s bedroom. And surprisingly enough, it took less than an hour to put together. Not too shabby for our very first IKEA assembly project.

I still want to paint in here and have some other decorating projects (lamp makeover, wall art, toy organizer), but this room is definitely taking shape!

And it’s nice to know that the IKEA in St. Louis opens this Fall. I see a bunch more of these hacks in my near future!

I have really enjoyed reading your blog for a while now. I come from a background of doing interior design for model homes. Your projects really remind me of the tricks we used to cut costs in model home budgets. I moved away from the company I was working for and had kids several years ago and now get to be a stay at home mom. So reading your blog has been inspiring for me and reminds me of my time working. But I wanted to give you a little feedback on the new advertising on you site. I am not sure when it began, because I don’t read every day or even every week depending on my schedule. There is now an ad that pops up across the whole screen on your page that is very distracting. Also ads pop on every photo in the blog. They can go away if clicked on, but I don’t like having to click on each photo as I scroll down. I have found that I am not wanting to visit your page because of all the ads all over it now and this doesn’t make me happy. I don’t want this to be negative toward the content of your blog, because I love it!

Oh very cool background! I’ve worked for a home builder for the past 15 years or so… maybe seeing all of the display homes have been inspiring me all along and I never knew it? 😉

And I apologize for the ads. That full page one is something new and I just emailed my web guy to remove it. Seriously annoying. I hate the pop up ads on each photo too. I’ll see if he can just switch it to the top one only… or if that even makes a difference!

And I really do appreciate the feedback! Thank you!!

Is there any particular type of paint you used? I’ve found that sometimes certain paints don’t hold up as well (or provide a sticky surface which then might get pulled up).

    • howtonestforless says

I like using enamel paints. Clark+Kensington brand or Sherwin Williams both make great enamels which are hard like like an oil (doesn’t chip easily) but easy to clean up like a normal latex!
