Well you may have noticed that I’ve been a little absent from my blog recently. I’ve only been able to check in a little bit here and there over the past two weeks since I’ve been crazy busy packing up every single room of our home… yes, we finally sold our home!

front-porch-full-makeoverI’ve been waiting to tell everyone until we got everything lined up for the closing, but I feel pretty safe to announce it now (well, fingers and toes crossed for a couple more days!).

We will be moving out of our house in less than two weeks. Oh boy, I have so much packing to do! It’s amazing how many “things” we have collected in this house over the past 7 years.

packing up the kitchenAnd of course I try to pack up the kitchen and then realize I still need half of the things in it. Well, I guess we’ll be living with paper plates and cups for the next couple of weeks…

kitchen packing boxesSo, where are we moving to?

Well, we’ve decided to build a brand new home just down the road from here. We built our current house and completely fell in love with the process of picking out our own kitchen cabinets, exterior brick, flooring, lighting etc.

old houseBut the main reason we’re building a new home instead of buying resale? Umm… let’s just say that I know a guy or two from my “normal” day job who is going to build us our new home. We’re getting such a great deal that we just couldn’t turn down the opportunity.

It takes a couple months to build a new home
so what are we going to do in the interim?

Well since we won’t be in our new home until October or November, we will be living with my husband’s parents until the house is ready. They live about 5 minutes from my work which is really convenient, although when our daughter starts school in the Fall we’ll have to drive about 20 minutes out of our way to get her there.

What about DIY projects in the next 3-4 months?

Oh, do not fear! Between my in-law’s and my own parents house I will have PLENTY of new projects to complete and keep y’all happy! Just some of the DIY projects on my list include painting my mom’s cabinets, refreshing her hall bath, and giving a makeover to a couple bedrooms at my mother-in-law’s house. Trust me, there will be plenty to see here on my blog!

Plus I’ll be giving you some behind the scenes photos and details on our new house, including asking your advice on flooring, lighting, and so much more!

So please stay tuned! There’s a lot of exciting things coming down the pike and I can’t wait to share this new journey with you! These next 2 weeks might be a little hectic while we’re trying to pack up and move out, but there are some great things just around the corner!

Congrats on building and selling! We just moved my fiance out of his house because it sold in FIVE days! Needless to say we also had to find him temporary housing until we find a house to buy! I feel your pain with packing and moving…not fun…but totally worth it in the end! Can’t wait to see the new place! 🙂

Congrats! I feel your pain. My husband and I are in the same situation. Just packed up and moved this weekend. We’re living in an apt. while we build our first home. I see you’re in STL…we are building a home in New Town. I’ve kept all of the projects I’m going to work on in the next few months at the front of our storage space 😉

    Good luck!

Congrats!! I’d love to build a home, but it’s too expensive out here in West County. I love where my house is now, I just wish I had more land.

    • howtonestforless says

      at

Urgh, yes… West County is SO expensive!! That was our dream location since we’re both from there, but just not in the cards for us right now. Maybe the next house 😉

    Good Luck.
I hate packing! But it does give you a chance to weed out stuff you don’t or haven’t used.

Thanks Carla! Yes, definitely helped us get rid of items that had been stuffed in the basement for years 😉
