St. Louis Cardinals Baseball Wreath

My boss has said to me many times before “Baseball is the background music of summer”. I love that! I’m a huge Cardinals fan and St. Louis is definitely a baseball town. So to show my Redbirds some love, I’ve created a St. Louis Cardinals Baseball Wreath for summer!

I actually got part of this idea from Oops I Craft My Pants, but I decided to kick it up a notch. The mini baseballs from Party City were a little pricey, so instead I found some foam baseball pool toys from the Dollar Tree! I scooped up 8 packages (each package had 4 balls).

Here’s the complete supply list:

  • 8 packages of foam pool baseballs from the Dollar Tree
  • Wire wreath form
  • Fabric scraps
  • STL Cardinals necklace
  • STL Cardinals plastic mini street sign
  • Hot glue gun
  • Ribbon

I had some red burlap ribbon leftover from a lamp shade makeover I completed a couple of months ago and decided to put it to good use. I cut it into 8 x 1 inch strips and tied it all the way around the wire wreath form.

Next it was time to add the foam baseballs. I used my handy dandy hot glue gun to adhere the balls to the wreath. The best part about about these baseballs? They’re for the pool so I know they’re waterproof and can withstand rain, ha!

I found this STL Cardinals plastic sign from Party City. It was the perfect width to go in the center of my wreath. It already had pre-drilled holes in each side. I just used some red ribbon and attached it to the wire wreath form.

I also found this rubber necklace from Party City. I snipped off the top of the STL logo and hot glued it to the plastic sign.

And that’s it! Super simple project that really only took less than an hour to create from start to finish!

Total costs: I used some supplies I already had in stock, including my leftover red fabric and wire wreath form. The foam baseballs from the Dollar Tree cost me $8. The rubber necklace was $3 and the plastic street sign was $8 (a little expensive but it was the perfect fit and I couldn’t pass it up!). So total costs for an adorable custom-made Baseball Wreath is $19! Not to shabby!!

This is super cute. Although I’m a Rangers fan, the Cardinals hold a special place in my heart because a friend of mine recently started playing for them! I might have to make on of these :) to show my Rangers pride.

Hi – what a great idea! My husband would love something like this. Although I probably won’t let him hang it anywhere except the basement!!

But – a great idea and a great gift for a baseball lover!

Thank you for being awesome! My clients are HUGE Cardinals fans (I mean who isn’t?) and I’ve been trying to think of an inexpensive housewarming gift to give them when we close on their new home next month! They already have a ton of Cardinals decorations and collectables but I bet they don’t have this! Thanks for sharing!

I just LOVE this, and I headed to the store to buy my supplies the very next day after I seen you on Great Day St.Louis. I found the perfect material, red chevron material, and the flower circle. But I searched 2 different dollar stores and cannot find the baseballs anywhere! I even checked the dollar section at Target with no luck. Does anyone know where I can find them? I know you said Dollar Tree, and that is where I looked first. Did you buy them recently?

    • says

I created this wreath last summer so the Dollar Tree had pool supplies out. You might need to wait a couple of weeks. Otherwise you can go to PartyCity and get the little squishy baseballs. Or maybe try online? So glad you saw me on Great Day St. Louis! Thanks for watching ;)

Kristina, I just made a Red Sox wreath following this tutorial. I bought the same baseballs from my local Dollar Tree (in VA) on Friday. So check again for sure!

I love this! We live all the way over in Washington state but my hubby is a HUGE Cardinals fan. We’re talking red truck, Cardinals sticker in the window, always has on at least two pieces of clothing with the Cardinals logo on it.. HUGE fan lol I really want to make this to put on our front door during baseball season :-)

  21. Amanda says

Thanks so much for posting this! I wanted to make a baseball wreath for my dad (die hard Yankees fan), but the weight of real balls concerned me. This is great because these little ones are cheaper and obviously lighter. I had no trouble finding them at Dollar Tree a full year after your post. Had to hit up two different locations though. And I scored he street sign at Party City as well. My guess is that they stock them for regional teams. Being instate, I lucked out. :)

I’m getting down to the wire with this idea for a Christmas present! This is my first time using a wire wreath. Do you loop the scrap piece through the different wires or just around all of the wires?

    • says

I tied the fabric strips around the outside and inside wires. Then fill in where needed on the rest! If your strips are long enough you can tie around two of the wires at once so it fills in better.
