It’s been awhile since I showed you guys any photos from the kitchen in our new house so today I thought I would share some minor updates.
Since we were snowed in yesterday I definitely took advantage and spruced up the space (and the fact that it was Valentine’s Day made it easier to coax Ben into helping me without complaints).
The most notable updates in the kitchen are the touches of green throughout… can you tell I’m ready to decorate for Spring?
Those pendants are from Lowe’s by the way. I get asked about them all the time. They don’t offer tons of light since they’re single bulbs but we have plenty of other lighting options in the room (recessed can lights, under cabinet lighting, and the sink light).
The countertops are Formica laminate in the color Belmonte Granite, same from the old kitchen. We hope to update those and add a backsplash later this year or in early 2017.
That little printable in the white frame I created for Mother’s Day two years ago but decided to add it into my new kitchen for some added pops of color.
The main thing to the kitchen over the weekend was new shades over our corner windows. I wanted to bring some darker tones up higher in the kitchen to complement our hardwood flooring and wood island.
To the left of the island you can see a big blank space over our picture frame moldings and chair rail. Ben and I are going to build something to go here…. maybe a wine holder or platter rack. Still trying to decide but we hope to work on something this Spring.
And you may have noticed but we’re missing counter height stools for our kitchen island. I’ve been on the hunt but am finding a hard time settling on something. First I wanted rattan backless counter stools, but that has been nearly impossible to find… unless I’m willing to drop like $250 each from Pottery Barn.
Here are a couple counter stools I’ve been eyeing recently…
So now to pick one out. Any suggestions?

Thanks Shannon! It will be easy to transition from St. Patrick’s Day to Spring with the green 🙂

When I opened the link I thought “those shades tie in the island and floor perfectly.” (I’m obviously an interior design expert.) The kitchen looks so beautiful, I’m so jealous of all your natural light!

You’re so smart! If I ever need an assistant I know who I’m calling first. And actually this house pales in comparison from our old house with natural light. I think photographing the kitchen on a snowy day just helped it seem much brighter!

I think I like the bottom left one, the Riley stool from Pier 1. I like how it adds some texture to the room.

What about white stools to brighten up that spot and match the white cabinets?

You can’t beat the price of these!

Beautiful kitchen – I really love the white cabinets with the wood island – a look I am going to do in my own kitchen. The shades are a perfect window treatment – can you tell where they are from & the color? Also, are they mounted on the window trim? Thank you for sharing your kitchen – gave me lots of inspiration!

Thank you! The shades are from Lowe’s in the color cinnamon:

You can do a window trim mount but instead we did a wall mount about 1ft above the windows. The only problem with these shades is they’re 72 inches long and you can’t shorten them. Our window was very small so instead we just hung them high to make the windows look larger. They were extremely easy to mount to the wall, too!!

WOW, what an amazingly beautiful kitchen. I dream of having a kitchen so beautiful some day!! I would have to say the very bottom stool on the right, it is lighter to accent the darker cupboards and wicker so it would be more comfortable to sit in. Thanks for sharing at Inspire Me Monday. Have a blessed week!!!

I love the brown & white combo and a bit of stainless steel added to the mix! Looks elegant, but welcoming too. Those pendants are to die for.
I like the stool from one kings lane best. Maybe it’s the round shape 🙂

Your kitchen is looking fabulous. You’ve done a great job and I love those pendants….pretty cool that they are from Lowe’s!
As far as the stools…I’ve actually tried out the stools from World Market (Cost Plus)and they are really comfy and the price is good….considering…
Although….having a back on the stool makes it that much more comfy…just saying…..
Great job…

Just came over from Homework: Creative Inspiration, so this comment is a little tardy. Regarding choosing stools – we learned from expensive experience that it’s best to choose one that’s upholstered, as hanging your legs off a seat without plenty of padding can lead to back strain, leg pain and even blood clots.

I was so excited to find these pictures! What a gorgeous kitchen! We are building and just chose the Belmont Granite laminate for our kitchen counters, and we’re also having white cabinets. We’re doing GE Slate appliances and ORB hardware, but it still gives me a really good idea of how it’s going to look together! Which is AMAZING! Question – what type of flooring is that? We’re doing sand & finish Red Oak, but not sure of the stain color yet, and love the color you chose! Any chance yours are sand & finish or are they pre-finished?
Thanks in advance, and again, it looks amazing! I can’t wait to show my husband!

This is the flooring we purchased in Stonewash Oak finish:

Hope that helps! Let me know if you need anything else.

I saw these Ikea Glenn barstools on a blog recently ( allisonanderson.com). They are white with chrome and gave it a clean, modern look plus they were affordable. You might want to check them out. Just found your blog tonight. Your kitchen is very pretty!

Can you list your paint colors?

The entire first floor is Revere Pewter by Benjamin Moore. It just looks different in different light!
