Upcycle It: Painted Large Ceramic Vase

If you remember, I’m try to revamp my Great Room on a tight budget which means upcycling my current furniture and accessories. Friday I showed you my Fireplace Mantel Makeover, but I had one last project I was toying around with to add to my brick hearth.

Yep, this large ceramic vase has been in my house since the day we moved in over 6 years ago. Even though it’s seen better days, I thought I would give it a quick coat of paint before just throwing it in the trash (it’s broken in several spots but it’s not too noticeable).

I have a lot of blues in my new room so I decided that Annie Sloan’s Duck Egg would be a good color choice. I broke out my Purdy paintbrush and gave the whole thing a coat of paint.

Now for some of the details. I got this little sample pot from the Haven Conference and put it to good use.

I used a small crafter’s brush to paint some of the swirls. As you can see, I wasn’t too detailed with my work… oops.

Luckily it didn’t look too bad once I stepped back and look at my finished piece. Amazing what a quick coat of paint can do for a piece.

As mentioned, I decided to move the vase to my fireplace hearth to go along with my mantel makeover that I showed you last Friday.

Yeah, it may be a little broken in some areas (blame the hubby and our vacuum cleaner) but it’s still a nice cheap upcycle makeover that will work until I get some more money.
